HEART Connection Center – Counseling – Your Personal Comfort Zone

Getting in Touch with Your Personal Comfort Zone

Hey!  You!  Yes you….do you know what your personal comfort zone is right now?  Comfort zone is defined as “a psychological state in which things feel familiar to a person and they are at ease and in control of their environment, experiencing low levels of anxiety and stress. “ [Alasdair A. K. White “From Comfort Zone to Performance Management”]

Do you like that safe comfortable feeling of familiarity, relying on routines and daily patterns to feel in control of your environment?  What happens if you switch things up?  Does your anxiety level switch up as well?  I’m guessing it does!  Stepping out of a comfort zone can raise anxiety and generate a stress response.  But if you just step out a little…not too far…just enough to test the waters, you might actually find new opportunities and patterns that improve your quality of life and increase your fulfillment.  Maybe think a little clearer…act a little sharper…have a little more fun!  But take baby steps…too fast and you might scare yourself back to your comfort zone.

So, I challenge you!  From time to time step out of your comfort zone by trying something a little different.  Step a little further and see where life leads you.  It may surprise you.  Along the way, it helps to: acknowledge fears, take emotional risks, expand your comfort boundaries and have a healthy curiosity.  After all, what’s the worst that can happen?   Neale Donald Walsh, a noted spiritualist, once said “Life Begins at the End of Your Comfort Zone”.

I am taking the challenge with you.  Each day, I am pushing myself a little beyond my comfort zone.  Stressful, at times – yes, but I’m excited about the new horizons waiting for me.  I went back to school at 49 to get a Masters in Counseling and became a voice for abused and neglected children as a Guardian ad Litem.  Now, as an empty nester, I am following my lifelong dream of counseling others to help them go beyond their comfort zone and find happiness and fulfillment.

Please share with me your own adventure out of your comfort zone at sandy@womenintransitioncounseling.com.  I’m looking forward to hearing from you 😊!
